Manteve todo o seu glamour da época, com salões, piscinas, saunas, massagens, acupuntura, banhos termais, sulfurosos, lamas e terapêuticos. Junto a ele está o Complexo do Barreiro, com trilhas, lagos, bosques e a famosa Bica da Dona Beja, personagem famosa da região pela sua beleza e influência.

Dizem que D. Beja tinha a pele linda devido aos banhos sulfurosos da Bica, daí o nome. Em uma lojinha muito charmosa, Dona Joaninha, localizada no centro da cidade próximo a Igreja se pode adquirir os famosos sabonetes de lama negra, mel, sulfuroso e outros tantos, alem dos doces, queijos e licores da culinária mineira.

Fomos para Araxá de carro e acho que é a melhor opção. Chegamos na cidade por volta de 15:00 horas. Como a maior atração é o Grande Hotel Tauá, não tinha como ficar em outro. Grande Hotel e Termas do Araxá é uma construção no estilo colonial iniciada em 1938. Contem 9 pisos e aproximadamente 27 metros de altura, do térreo ao sótão da fachada principal. O paisagismo foi elaborado pelo artista Roberto Burle Marx. Hoje é conhecido por ser o maior spa de águas sulfurosas e radioativas do Brasil e pela lama negra, usada para fins medicinais.

Foi inaugurado em 1944 e foi por muito tempo um ponto de encontro da sociedade do Brasil e de Minas Gerais. Por lá passou grandes celebridades. Foi inaugurado pelo presidente Getúlio Vargas e pelo governador mineiro Benedito Valadares. Posteriormente, depois de ser amante deste funcionário por 2 anos, voltou a Araxá e construiu um bordel em uma chácara, a Chácara do Jatobá. Lá ela recebia pessoas influentes da sociedade. Mas, ganhou a ira das mulheres da sociedade de Araxá. No centro da cidade tem um museu sobre a vida de D. Beja. Infelizmente, quando estive lá estava em reforma.
