Com uma população de mais de 1 milhão de habitantes e um inverno bem rigoroso e verão quente e úmido. Metade da população nasce em família que fala francês e este é o idioma mais falado, no entanto, na região urbana são bilíngues, falando francês e inglês. É um importante centro comercial, tecnológico, educacional, cultural, turístico, esportivo e de tecnologia aeroespacial do Canadá. Ganhou o título pela UNESCO como cidade do design. É onde está a sede da Organização da Aviação Civil Internacional. Seu porto possui 15 km de extensão e recebe navios de grande porte.
Chegamos na cidade vindo de Quebec, 259 km, viagem tranquila por rodovias com excelente infra-estrutura e bem sinalizadas. Tem um post aqui no Blog onde relato nossa experiência em Quebec https://andiamoblogviagens.com.br/quebec-canada/ A cidade quando se chega dá a impressão que é bem complicada, pois os viadutos são enormes e vários. Felizmente estávamos com GPS no carro e isso facilitou muito. Nosso hotel era localizado próximo do centro histórico e não foi difícil encontrar. O problema foi na chegada que não se pode parar em lugar nenhum. Mas, na porta do hotel tem uma placa estrategicamente colocada na porta onde se é possível ficar estacionado por 15 minutos sem ser multado, desde que esteja hospedado no hotel é claro!! Fizemos o cheking e de lá seguimos para uma rua paralela onde seria o nosso estacionamento. A um preço extra!! Fizemos a locação do carro pela Rentcars, que pode ser feita ainda do Brasil e pagar em reais, sem ter o acréscimo de IOF.
Montreal é a principal sede norte americana de eventos como Eventos Esportivos, Congressos e Convenções, com isto o turismo neste setor é bem alto, os hotéis são bons e oferecem tudo que os congressistas necessitam. Sem falar que é uma das cidades mais seguras do mundo. Um local excelente para visitar. Para nós brasileiros falar em segurança é como estar em um Paraíso. O aeroporto da cidade é bem movimentado sendo o terceiro no país em volume de passageiros. O Aeroporto Internacional Pierre Elliott Trudeau http://www.admtl.com/ está localizado a 16 km do centro da cidade, não tem metrô que vai até lá. Mas, isso não é problema, uma vez que a cidade possui um excelente meio de transporte público. Se for pela linha 747, um ônibus que é um Express e passa por 11 paradas é muito prático e barato o link é: http://www.admtl.com/en/access/transports/buses-747-express nele se pode ver os horários e a rota. Antes de ir a Montreal fiz algumas pesquisas e fiquei muito interessada em conhecer o RÉSO que é a parte subterrânea de Montreal. Devido ao inverno rigoroso da cidade, foi construído túneis e corredores com cerca de 30 km, onde existe tudo que possui em uma cidade, onde os habitantes circulam por elas sem ter a necessidade de andar ao ar livre, se protegendo assim da neve e frio, mantendo a vida normal mesmo no inverno. Incrível!! Uma construção sensacional! A sensação de andar por esses corredores é de estar em um shopping gigante, com praças, lojas, teatros, bancos, comercio em geral e até igrejas.O metrô é totalmente subterrâneo e suas estações fazem parte desta “cidade subterrânea”. As estações de metrô são consideradas “As maiores obras de arte subterrânea do mundo”, já que são muito bonitas com pinturas, estátuas, e outras obras de arte. Não é difícil entrar no RÉSO, em qualquer lugar que esteja andando no centro da cidade, encontrará uma plaquinha onde aparece RÉSO e uma seta indicando para baixo. Quer dizer que ali é uma entrada. Não se preocupe se perder por lá, todo mundo se perde. Afinal, são mais de 1500 lojas e 200 restaurantes. Mas, não tem erro, quando quiser sair é só procurar uma saída como da entrada e já estará na superfície. Lembrando que o RÉSO tem 5 andares abaixo do solo.
Para começar o passeio na cidade, o melhor é iniciar a visita pela parte antiga da cidade que é bem preservada e onde está vários pontos turísticos. Chamada de Old Montreal ou Vieux Montreal, possui ruas de calçamento de pedras, ruas estreitas, muitas exclusivas para pedestres e várias ciclovias. A queridinha de todo turista com certeza é a Catedral de Notre-Dame de Montreal, https://www.basiliquenotredame.ca/fr/ Ela é bem alta e tirar uma foto com ela inteira é bem complicado. A parte interna também merece ser visitada, de qualquer parte do centro histórico não é difícil de chegar a ela, alem de poder ver suas torres em vários pontos, as placas indicativas te levam até ela.
Estando na Catedral é só seguir em direção a rua St Paul, uma rua cheia de lojinhas, restaurantes e bares, que no final do dia já começa o burburinho. A Place de Jacques Cartier também faz parte desta agitação. O Porto Antigo, está nesta região e é um local bem pitoresco e possui um espaço onde ocorre vários festivais, vários artistas de rua ficam por ali fazendo suas apresentações. Um pouco mais acima está o lindo Hôtel de Ville de Montreal http://ville.montreal.qc.ca/portal/page?_pageid=5798,85041649&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL , que é o prédio da prefeitura e o Château Ramezay, onde já foi a casa do governador, https://www.chateauramezay.qc.ca/en hoje funciona um museu com um acervo que conta a história da cidade. São dois edifícios grandiosos e com uma arquitetura espetacular.
Estando no Porto Antigo, se pode pegar um pequeno barco que leva as Ilha de Santa Helena (´IIe de Saint-Helene) e a Ilha de Notre-Dame (ÍIe Notre-Dame), que estão no Rio São Lourenço. Na Ilha de Notre-Dame está um Cassino e o famoso circuito Gilles Villeneuve. Prefira ir no final da tarde onde se pode assistir ao por do sol em Montreal. Perto do porto também tem um parque lindíssimo, onde as pessoas aproveitam para fazer picnic, andar de bicicleta, fazer caminhadas, ler ou admirar a paisagem. O Canadá preserva suas áreas ambientais e não é a toa que em Montreal tem um dos maiores Jardim Botânico do mundo, outro local que se sente a preservação ambiental e está localizado dentro do Complexo Olímpico é o Biodôme, que é um complexo fechado que reproduz quatro diferentes ambientes da América, com fauna e flora de cada local.
Montreal, que tem como apelido “a cidade dos santos”, é uma cidade de muitas igrejas antigas e para quem gosta de arquitetura é um passeio obrigatório. São tantas que se pode ver uma a cada caminhada pela cidade, as mais famosas são: a Basílica de Notre-Dame, o Oratório Saint-Joseph, a Catedral Maie-Reine-du-monde e a Basílica Saint-Patrick. A Place des Artes que fica perto da Basílica de Notre-Dame é um dos pontos efervescente artisticamente falando.
O Oratório de Saint Joseph é um ponto turístico bem conhecido em Montreal. Não é tão antigo já que é de 1900 e é um dos patrimônios turísticos do Canadá. Montreal é famosa pela quantidade de igrejas que possui. https://www.saint-joseph.org/en/ nesta região que é bem pertinho do Monte Royal, tem jardins, capelas lindas, terraço e uma vista espetacular.
Antes de chegar na basílica, o caminho é cheio de verde e amplo. Por este motivo não congestiona de turistas e se pode andar com tranquilidade. A arquitetura do edifício e a localização estratégica na montanha lhe dá uma notável presença simbólica. O Museu Oratório apresenta várias exposições temporárias que permitem aos visitantes descobrir o patrimônio religioso e artístico de Quebec e de outros lugares. Uma visita aos jardins do Caminho da Cruz, perto da basílica é um lugar lindo e tranquilo. A basílica chama atenção principalmente por suas grandes dimensões. No pórtico principal, por exemplo, há uma grande escadaria de 283 degraus. Tem que ter disposição para chegar ao topo. Mas, do lado fica estacionado um carro branco que leva os menos preparados fisicamente. O estacionamento é enorme e gratuito.
O parque de Monte Royal possui uma área de mais de 200 hectares, e é uma das principais atrações turísticas da cidade, o famoso Monte Royal fica localizado dentro deste espaço. Pelo tamanho já deu para perceber quantas atividades possui. É um local que os habitantes da cidade gostam muito de frequentar. A maior atração do parque é o mirante Kondiaronk (Kondiaronk Belvedere), que oferece uma vista panorâmica do alto do morro para a cidade e o Chalet du Mont Royal, um edifício de pedra onde fica uma lanchonete. A entrada ao Parque e ao Belvedere é gratuita, leve uma blusa de frio em dias mais frescos porque venta muito.

Felizmente não tivemos que ir a nenhum funeral em Montreal, mas não deixamos de ir a um de seus belos cemitérios. O Notre-Dame-des-Neiges é um cemitério lindíssimo, pois a sensação que se tem é que estamos em um parque muito bem cuidado. Sendo o maior do Canadá e o terceiro maior da América do Norte, com muitas pessoas influentes sepultadas no local. Oferecem serviço de Logon, no seu celular, para que possa localizar as pessoas famosas enterradas nele. Não chegamos a tanto, mas a visita valeu a pena. É possível andar de carro pelas suas ruas e se nota o desnível de túmulos, em se tratando de nível social. Alguns são mausoléus enormes e outros nem tanto.
Pode parecer estranho visitar um cemitério, mas este lugar é incrível. Estar no meio de uma grande metrópole e no entanto parecer que está em um jardim silencioso e bonito só mesmo em país de primeiro mundo. No verão as flores e a vegetação presentei o local com suas cores, ficando ainda mais bonito. No inverno fica coberto de neve e não deve ser muito atraente.
QUANDO IR A MONTREAL
Montreal possui as quatro estações bem definidas. O verão é quente e úmido, o inverno é frio e pode nevar e ficar em negativo, geralmente de dezembro a março a cidade fica encoberta de neve. A primavera e o outono são de temperaturas agradáveis, mas podendo cair rapidamente em alguma frente fria. De abril a outubro não ocorrem nevascas.
