Quebec é a cidade mais francesa do Canadá, a mais antiga também. Com mais de 500 mil habitantes, suas ruas, avenidas e construções em muito lembram as cidades francesas, possui uma muralha que cerca a parte antiga de Quebec que já ganhou o Título de Patrimônio da Humanidade pela UNESCO. As muralhas são os únicos muros antigos que permanecem na América do Norte, ou seja é a única cidade que é amuralhada da América do Norte. Até 2002, a cidade não passava de 170 mil habitantes, com a fusão a mais 12 cidades próximas, ganhou a condição de cidade grande. As pessoas são elegantes e educadas e a gastronomia nota dez. É dividida em parte nova e velha e é ligada por um funicular.
A cidade localiza-se na margem do Rio São Lourenço, que é bem estreito e em alguns pontos possui cerca de 800 metros. Daí o nome de Quebec, que quer dizer, passagem estreita. O centro da cidade é dividido em duas partes: Haute-ville ou cidade alta e basse-ville ou cidade baixa. Conectadas por um funicular, ou escadarias. São os locais onde a maioria dos pontos turísticos se encontram. Mesmo com esta colina muito inclinada é possível conhece-la a pé. Na parte baixa está o porto e o Quartier Petit Champlain, que é cheia de restaurantes, galerias de arte, lojas típicas, a igreja Notre Dame-des-Victoires e o Mercado, onde se é possível comer a preços camaradas e comprar lembrancinhas e produtos da região. O acesso entre as duas partes pode ser feito a pé, através de uma escadaria ou através do funicular. Fizemos o contrário que todos fazem, descemos de funicular e subimos de escada. Pensamos que a descida seria muito íngreme, mas não é. No entanto, valeu pela vista que o funicular oferece. O ticket é comprado na hora e só vale para subir ou descer.
A maior parte da população da cidade, são descendentes de franceses, o restante de escoceses, ingleses e irlandeses. São quase 100% de população branca. A taxa de fertilidade é bem baixa e se pode notar a quantidade de pessoas com mais de 65 anos pela cidade. O idioma é predominantemente o francês, por algum momento a sensação é que estamos na França, mas o inglês também é falado. Quebec é uma das cidades mais bonitas do mundo. Um ponto bem interessante e por onde se terá uma ideia do que seja a cidade de Quebec é do alto do Observatório, o Observatoire de la Capitale localizado no Trigésimo Primeiro andar do edifíco Marie-Guyart Building. De lá a vista do Rio São Lourenço e dos monumentos e hotéis de Quebec ainda ficam mais bonitos.
A construção mais marcante da região antiga da cidade de Quebec é a presença do Château Frontenac, um hotel com mais de um século, que está para um castelo que para um hotel. Possui cerca de 600 apartamentos. Um detalhe que nenhum turista deve esquecer é o seguro viagem, este deve estar sempre em mãos, afinal, ninguém sabe o que pode acontecer. A Basílica Notre-Dame de Quebec, é muito antiga de 1723, um local que sempre está cheia de turistas e quem estiver por lá não pode deixar de ir. Já sofreu dois incêndios e se mantem intacta. Tem um museu na parte alta, não fomos, mas o ingresso é de 5 dólares canadenses. Durante o dia tem uma missa que é utilizado o órgão e a acústica da igreja é sensacional. Mas, mesmo se não entrar no museu uma visita pelo edifício vale a pena pela sua imponência.
A cidade é cheia de ruas estreitas e muitas delas são exclusivas para pedestres. A parte nova da cidade possui avenidas largas e edifícios modernos. É bem arborizada e organizada, possui um transporte público eficiente e prático. Possui vários bares estilo francês e a população segue o estilo de vida francês.
Os muros de Quebec possui 4,6 km de extensão, e se pode fazer um passeio por eles, para conhecer um pouco mais da história da cidade e do país. O Porte St. Jean, é parada obrigatória. Quebec mesmo não sendo uma cidade muito pequena, 2 a 4 dias são suficientes para explorá-la. Seu centro histórico não é grande e se deve conhece-lo a pé. No entanto leve calçados confortáveis, pois as ruas não são niveladas, são muitas subidas, calçadões e escadas. Sem falar nos parques que são passeios imperdíveis.

Com certeza o melhor lugar de se hospedar é na Old Quebec, pois os melhores pontos turísticos estão nesta região. Porem, neste local os preços são mais caro. Fiquei em um hotel muito bom que ficava ainda na parte nova da cidade, mas bem próximo da parte antiga e dava para ir a pé facilmente, na avenida mais famosa de Quebec, a Grand Alle. O hotel é uma casa muito bonita e oferece estacionamento gratuito. Nome do hotel é: Manoir de La Tour http://www.hotelmanoirdelatour.com/ e recomendo tranquilamente. Paguei 90 dólares e valeu cada centavo. Fiz as reservas pelo Booking.com, faça também suas reservas através do nosso Blog, isso não acarretará nada a mais em suas diárias e ainda nos ajudará na divulgação.
QUANDO IR A QUEBEC
Qualquer época é uma boa oportunidade de conhecer a cidade. Mas, o verão, de maio a setembro, é a época que os turistas mais gostam. No inverno, que vai de dezembro a março, a cidade fica cheia de neve, com temperaturas que podem chegar a menos 40 graus. No outono e na primavera, as temperaturas são mais agradáveis e os preços são mais em conta. As chuvas são bem distribuídas durante todo o ano.
